How it works

When your spouse lives outside the U.S., the approved I-130 goes to the National Visa Center (NVC). NVC collects fees, forms, financial papers and civil documents. Then it schedules an interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate.

What NVC asks for

NVC mostly asks for civil documents (like birth and marriage certificates, and police certificates where needed) and the Affidavit of Support with financial papers. Follow the instructions in your case account.

Why relationship proof still matters

The officer at the embassy may ask about your relationship. Many people bring proof, like dated photos together, travel records and messages, in case the officer wants to see it. Check your embassy’s instructions for what to bring.

Keep your proof up to date

  • Add photos and visit records from the time since you filed the I-130.
  • Use the same caption style (what, when, where, who) so it reads as one story.
  • Bring original civil documents as the embassy instructs.

Case Album has a spouse-abroad cover option (I-130 with NVC case number) and makes a clean PDF you can print or show on a phone or tablet.
