The rule: you must have met in person

For a K-1 fiancé(e) visa (Form I-129F), USCIS generally requires that you met in person at least once in the 2 years before you file. There are a few exceptions. Check the current instructions for details.

How photos help

Photos of you together during a visit help show the time you spent together. On their own they may not prove everything, so couples usually add travel records too, like plane tickets or passport stamps.

How to organize visit photos

  • Group photos by visit, then put them in date order.
  • Write the date, place, what was happening and both names.
  • Only write dates you are sure about. If you only know the month, write the month.
  • Older photos can show your history, but they do not prove a meeting in the last 2 years.

Follow the current I-129F instructions

For online filing, USCIS’s general tips accept PDF, JPG and JPEG files of 12 MB or smaller. Check your form’s screen. Case Album keeps each PDF under 11 MB.
