K-1 in-person meeting window calculator

Check whether your last in-person visit falls within the two years before filing Form I-129F, and the last day to file based on that visit.

An estimate only; it runs in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere. Check the current Form I-129F instructions for the exact rule and exceptions.

The two-year meeting requirement

USCIS generally requires a U.S. citizen petitioner and their fiancé(e) to have met in person at least once during the two years immediately before Form I-129F is filed. The instructions describe limited exceptions, such as extreme hardship or a violation of strict and long-established customs. This calculator adds two years to your most recent visit to estimate the last filing date that visit supports.

Documenting the visit

Couples usually pair travel records (itineraries, boarding passes, passport stamps) with dated photos taken together during the visit. Captions with the date, place and both names make each photo easy to match to the trip.

Frequently asked questions

Do we have to meet in person within two years for a K-1 visa?

Generally yes, within the two years immediately before filing Form I-129F, unless an exception in the instructions applies.

Is the two-year period counted from the filing date?

Yes. The period is the two years immediately before the petition is filed, so the visit must fall within that window on the day you file.
