Where you upload
When you file a form online, you fill it out in your USCIS online account. The form has an evidence section with an upload box for each type of proof. Not every form can be filed online, and each form has different boxes. Follow what your screen shows.
Which files are allowed
USCIS’s general online tips list PDF, JPG and JPEG, and say each file must be 12 MB or smaller. Some forms accept other types. Treat 12 MB as the maximum, not a goal.
Get your files ready first
- Scan or photograph each page so it is straight, complete and easy to read.
- Put all pages of one document in one PDF, like all pages of your lease.
- Give files clear names, like “Exhibit-C-Joint-Lease-2024.pdf”.
- Keep each file under 12 MB. Split big files into numbered parts.
- Add English translations for documents in other languages, ideally in the same file.
Uploading your relationship photos
Many couples upload one PDF of photos with captions instead of many single images. That way each caption stays next to its photo, in date order. Upload it in the box for relationship or marriage evidence.
Case Album makes that PDF for you and keeps each file under 11 MB. You can add documents as separate, labeled exhibit files.
Common problems
- File too big: make the photos smaller, scan at a lower setting, or split the file.
- PDF has a password: save a copy without the password first.
- Blurry phone scans: take the photo again in good light, flat on a dark table, with the whole page showing.
- Not sure which box: read each box’s description and pick the closest one.

Frequently asked questions
What is the biggest file I can upload to USCIS?
USCIS’s general online tips say each file must be 12 MB or smaller, in PDF, JPG or JPEG. Some forms may differ, so check your upload screen.
Should I upload photos one by one or as a PDF?
Both can work if your form’s upload box allows it. One PDF with captions keeps the date, place and names next to each photo and keeps them in order.
Can I upload more evidence after I file online?
If USCIS sends you a Request for Evidence on a case filed online, the notice and your account explain how to respond, which can include uploading documents.
